Jewish Family Services launches food pantry
Because of a generous gift made to honor the work of a social worker in the Sussex office, Jewish Family Services is able to launch a food pantry to benefit the large percentage of clients who regularly go without nourishing food.
On Jan. 16, a national day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a group of dedicated volunteers came together to begin planning. The new food pantry will also be part of Emily Simon's bat mitzvah project. Social action work is part of the preparation for this significant life event.
"Emily is very excited about helping with this project," said Dr. Joel Simon, Emily's dad. This new initiative adds to the counseling and aging-in-place services already offered by Jewish Family Services in Sussex County.
The Sussex Village Network is a project of Jewish Family Services of Delaware, 20684 John J. Williams Highway, Lewes. Jewish Family Services provides services to the entire community without regard to religion, race, or socioeconomic status.
