Warren C. ‘Rick’ Sumlin, former Emmert Auction employee

Warren C. “Rick” Sumlin, 77, of Newark, formerly of Rehoboth, was called to his heavenly home Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017.

He was born March 13, 1939, to the late Edward and Belle Thrasher Sumlin. Warren was born and raised in Lake Wales, Fla. He attended the public schools of Polk County and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1957, where he was the football captain. He then went on to continue his education at Gibbs College in Saint Petersburg, Fla., where he also played football.

He then joined the Armed Forces; after leaving the Army he went to Rehoboth Beach. Upon arrival there he began his career of 40 years at the Dinner Bell Inn, serving many years as a chef. He then began his career of 10 years working with Emmert Auction.

 He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Mae; son Norman Love; and sisters Fronnie Sumlin Smith, Mary Ferguson, and Lucy Pearl Sumlin Craft. He is survived by sons Freddie and Mary Love-Kemper of Texas, Emory Sumlin of Orlando, Fla., Warren Sumlin Jr of Newark and Eric Sumlin of Harrington; two daughters: Libby Allen of Milton and  Kimberly and John Webb  of Milton; two sisters, Eddye Sumlin Rivers of Lake Wales and Mildred Sumlin Lamar of Waverly, Fla.; one brother, Albert Williams; grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Special friends were Butch and Carol Emmert of Rehoboth.

Services will be held at Faith UM Church, 19940 Church St., Rehoboth Beach, Saturday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. Friends may call at the church two hours before the ervice..
