Wire and bead crocheted jewelry-making class set Aug. 16

August 2, 2017

The Milton Arts Guild Artful Touch Instructional Series will present a wire and bead crocheted jewelry-making class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 310 Walnut St., Milton. Taught by Edilu Nehrbas, this class is designed for those looking to start a new hobby or business, or just to let a creative side emerge. This beginner's class will cover everything attendees need to know to make a gorgeous bead and crocheted wire piece. Participants will leave class with a necklace or bracelet that they made, as well as new skills to create more jewelry from home.

Wire jewelry expert Nehrbas will give instructions for use of all tools and materials, and then move on to making wire jewelry bracelets, necklaces and earrings using just a chain stitch, beads and flexible wire. Students will create beautiful pieces with endless possibilities for future creations.

The techniques covered in this course form a great foundation for developing more advanced wire jewelry skills. Participants will be using a crochet hook of choice, H, I, or J, 26 or 28 gauge wire (color of choice), and beads of choice. Previous crochet experience is not needed. All materials are supplied for this class, but attendees may  bring their own beads if they have specific colors in mind or want to repurpose vintage beads into a modern look.

A retired art teacher for Cape Henlopen School District, Nehrbas teaches drawing, painting, and jewelry-making classes for Wilmington University in Rehoboth Beach. She also teaches print making and beading for Delaware Technical Community College.

The cost is $30 per member (in advance) or $40 for nonmembers and at the door. To register, go to www.miltonartsguild.org or contact Ginny Barney at 302-236-8225 or ginnybarney2013@gmail.com.
