Bethany Beach architect recognized for Best Modern Architecture

December 16, 2017

The Rehoboth House in Rehoboth Beach, designed by Scott Edmonston, AIA, of SEA Studio Architects, was honored with the award for Best Modern Architecture from the Delaware Today Home Design Contest. Winners were announced during a ceremony held Nov. 14 at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington. Scott and Jenifer Edmonston of SEA Studio Architects attended the ceremony and accepted the award.

The annual design competition recognizes work by Delaware architects, designers and contractors. Submitted projects are judged by a panel of architects and industry experts who select finalists in 12 categories.

The Rehoboth Beach house was designed for a site near Gordons Pond to protect the existing trees on the site while letting abundant natural light into the living spaces. The glass-enclosed dining space separates the living areas from the bedroom spaces allowing the dining area to function as a four-season room so that meals can be enjoyed in the open air when the weather is pleasant.

The design of the house allows it to be a net-zero energy use building through the use of passive heating and cooling, day-lighting, super-insulated walls and more. The panels of judges recognized the design for its warm, natural light and contemporary detailing.
