Bradley building demolition waiting on state case
Tearing down the offices of convicted rapist Earl Bradley has turned into a waiting game.
All the pieces are in place for the former BayBees Pediatrics to be torn down. Attorney Robert Gibbs represents Fulton Bank, which after foreclosing on the property has agreed to sell it to an unnamed third party. The buyers have said they intend to demolish Bradley's former office complex.
Gibbs said the owners are awaiting action from the state, which filed a racketeering suit against Bradley on all his personal property. He said he spoke with the Attorney General's Office, which was going to get a judgment and forfeiture lien on the property. The state would then remove all the personal property. Once that is done, Gibbs said, the owners can move forward with demolishing the buildings.
Gibbs said the owners have agreed to let Millsboro contractor Harry Caswell of Harry Caswell Plumbing and Mechanical demolish the buildings. Caswell offered to do the demolition for free and has lined up financing and equipment to do demolish as soon as the go-ahead is given.
The demolition should happen relatively soon, Gibbs said. Caswell confirmed that he has been given the go-ahead to demolish the buildings and that the wait is for a judge to give the state a deadline to remove Bradley's personal property. Once the property is removed, the buildings can come down, Caswell said.
The BayBees Pediatrics offices on Route 1 have sat empty since Bradley's arrest on charges of rape and exploitation of his child patients. Bradley was convicted of 24 counts of rape, assault and exploitation and is awaiting a Friday, Aug. 26 sentencing.
