Luxury Auto Salon now open in Lewes

It’s been more than two years since Luxury Motors in Rehoboth began selling high-end, low-mileage, late-model vehicles to Cape Region customers who want to cruise the beaches in style.

The growing desire of people to keep those vehicles looking sharp is what spurred the car sales company to expand its detailing services with the opening of Luxury Auto Salon in Lewes.

James Gordon, auto salon general manager, said the well-placed Rehoboth location only has one detailing bay, while the new location has space for up to 10 vehicles.

“A service like this is really needed around here,” said Gordon. “Most of the other carwash locations are like an assembly line – pushing cars through, quickly vacuuming and then moving on to the next vehicle.”

Gordon said he has 30 years of vehicle detailing experience, much of it honed at luxury vehicle dealerships in Annapolis and the surrounding areas. Gordon’s experience also includes preparing cars for the Mecum and Barrett Jackson auto auctions.

Gordon said the key to luxury detailing is the initial washing phase. Starting with the engine, and moving outward, the technicians use a variety of cleaning products to hit all the obvious spots and all the not-so-obvious spots, such as wheels, wheel wells, door jambs, and tail pipes.

“We try to remove every trace of dirt before, and have the car spotless, before moving into the detailed cleaning phase,” Gordon said. “We get in all the cracks and crevices.”

Following the washing phase, a vehicle is then moved into detailing, where technicians have the highest-quality materials and cleaning agents at their disposal, said Gordon. Microfiber wash mitts and rags are cleaned before use and kept separated for different uses, he said.

In addition to the detailing, Luxury Auto Salon offers headlight and wheel restoration, windshield chip repair, ceramic coating, paintless dent removal and minor scratch repair.

The auto salon opened in January, said Gordon, so the showroom space is still a work in progress. He said when it’s done there will be a nice waiting area, with a large television and WiFi where customers can relax while they wait for their vehicle to be detailed.

Gordon said for the time being, Luxury Auto Salon’s hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. He said once the weather turns, hours will be extended in the evening. Walk-ins are welcome, but Gordon recommends making an appointment.

The auto salon is located in a former Napa Auto Parts, next to Midway Tire Center, at 18421 Coastal Highway.
