Florence forces closings, cancellations

The impending weather forecast, which predicts heavy rain and wind, high surf conditions and flooding from Hurricane Florence, is forcing the cancellation of several events. • Coastal Patrol Base 2 Memorial Composite Squadron's open house scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, has been cancelled. The event will be rescheduled at a later date. Lt. Col. Robert W. Turner said the unit is busy preparing for the effects of Hurricane Florence. 
 
• The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce has rescheduled its Business After Hours, originally set for Thursday, Sept. 13, to Thursday, Sept. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach.
 
• Lewes’ Chautauqua, All Aboard: Delaware and the Railroad, set Sept. 13 to 15, has been moved indoors from tents on the grounds of the Zwaanendael Museum and the Lewes History Museum.
 
• Dewey Beach Sprint Triathlon has been cancelled for Saturday, Sept. 15. Officials are trying to find an alternative date this fall. Registered athletes can pick up the shirt, water bottle and goody bag at Gary’s Dewey Beach Grill from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15. Shirts can also be mailed. 
 
• DNREC’s Coastal Cleanup scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, has been postponed to Saturday, Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon.
 
• The Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth Fabulous ‘50s Gala and Auction event that was set for Friday, Sept.14, has been cancelled.
 
• The Broadkill Music Festival, set for Saturday, Sept. 15 has been moved from Milton Memorial Park to Milton Fire Dept., 116 Front St., Milton.
Milton Farmers Market at Dogfish on Sept. 14 was cancelled.
 
Special Olympics Delaware Families Day at the Beach Picnic and Fishing Tournament, set for Saturday, Sept. 15, at Cape Henlopen State Park, has been postponed. A rain date will be announced at a later time. 
 
• Overfalls Foundation Fall Fest Closing Party, set for Friday, Sept. 14, has been cancelled.
 
• ReStore Outdoor Marketplace, rescheduled for Sept. 22, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
 
• Historic Lewes Farmers Market, set for 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 15, has been moved to the Shields Elementary School parking lot.
