Coastal Concerts to present string powerhouse Nov. 17
The American String Quartet with Roberto and Andrés Díaz will play at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, in the performance hall at Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes. The matinee performance will feature sextets by R. Strauss, J. Brahms, and P. Tchaikovsky.
The concert is a return engagement for the ASQ, formed when its original members were students at the Juilliard School. A resident quartet at the Aspen Music Festival since 1974 and at the Manhattan School of Music since 1984, the ASQ has also served as resident quartet at the Taos School of Music, the Peabody Conservatory and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Roberto Díaz, a violist of international reputation, is president and CEO of the Curtis Institute of Music and former principal viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Díaz has had a significant impact on American musical life and continues to do so in his dual role as performer and educator.
Andrés Díaz exhilarates critics and audiences with his intense and charismatic performances. His numerous orchestral appearances have included return engagements with the Atlanta Symphony, and performances with the American Symphony at Carnegie Hall and the Boston Pops.
Ticket are $35, with free admission to each youngster 18 and under and an accompanying adult. Discounted tickets are available at $10 for students 19 and older, and for active-duty and retired career military personnel. Valid IDs are required for student and military discounts.
