Eugene Weber, Air Force veteran, pipefitter

September 21, 2011

Eugene Weber, 76 of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Wilmington, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.  The cause of death was complications related to cancer.

Born in Wilmington April 13, 1935, Mr. Weber was the son of the late Eugene and Mary Jane (Jennie) Green Weber.

After service in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-57, Mr. Weber went to work as a pipefitter and welder with Local 74 in Wilmington.  He moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1974 where he enjoyed fishing and working in his yard.  He commuted to Wilmington until 1997 when he retired.

Mr. Weber loved animals and made frequent visits to shelters to offer affection to their dogs and cats.  He also enjoyed caring for the birds and deer behind his home as well as for several stray cats.  When he wasn’t following a number of sports teams - especially the Phillies - Mr. Weber spent much of his time outdoors either on his bicycle or logging several miles on his daily walks.

His survivors include his former wife and friend, Carol M. Weber of Milton; a son, Eugene Weber III, and his wife, Leigh and three children, Matthew, Brian and Alexis, all of Bear; and a daughter, Joan Weber of Milton and her two children, Scott Vickers and wife Angelika of Rehoboth Beach, and Virginia Besche Walczak and her husband Mark, of Chicago, Ill.

Mr. Weber is also survived by two brothers: Raymond Weber of Wilmington and Bob Weber of Milford; and two sisters: Marie Hogan of Woodstown, N.J. and Mary Bushared of Portland, Ore.

Services were private.
