Henry Lavenets, retired civil service

Henry Lavenets, 90, of Rehoboth Beach passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

Mr. Lavenets’ family immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia and Henry was born in Cheswick, Pa., Aug. 7, 1928 to the late Steve and Mary (Rumach) Lavenets.  Henry was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and in 1949 was stationed at Fort Miles in Lewes where he met his wife Artie.  There was an immediate connection, and they were married one year later and spent most of their life residing in Rehoboth Beach.  They were married 67 years before her passing in February 2018.

Henry continued his career with the U.S. Air Force civil service during the construction of Dover Air Force Base, and eventually retired after 25 years.  Henry loved working and taking care of his family.  He also had a love for being on the water, especially fishing and boating.  He liked to keep himself busy painting, going thrift shopping, yard sales and walking.  

In addition to his parents, and his wife, Artie Lee Lavenets, Henry is preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Mae Lavenets; a son, Steven Henry Lavenets; and five siblings.

He is survived by two daughters, Audrey Comm and husband Andrew, and Jamie-Lyn Laurenzi and husband Paul; a grandson, Garrett Lavenets; three great-grandchildren, Kiah Cave, Sean Dre McGee and Jaylin McGee; five great-great-grandchildren, Jayson Tunnell, Jonah Brown, Izaiah McGee, Lincoln Brown and Jayden Cave; a sister, Mary Davis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Services and burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions are welcome to the charity of your choice.
