Dewey appoints board, planning members
At a special meeting Feb. 23, Dewey Beach commissioners unanimously voted to reappoint Julie Johnson to the board of adjustment and Jim Bielicki to the planning and zoning commission. Both positions are three-year terms.
Sussex County Council not meeting on March 5
Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, March 5. The next regularly scheduled meeting is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, in the Sussex County administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.
Lewes budget meetings continue Feb. 26
Lewes Mayor and City Council will continue its work on the fiscal year 2020 budget at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, at city hall. Discussion will be focused on capital projects and the public art committee. For more information, call city hall at 302-645-7777.
Lewes planners to walk through Fishers Cove Feb. 27
The Lewes Planning Commission will walk through the Fishers Cove site at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the end of Rodney Avenue. Lewes byway to meet Feb. 27
The Historic Lewes Byway Committee will meet at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, at city hall. The group will discuss proposed byway signing legislation, a federal bill to reopen the byways program, the New Road Master Plan, and preliminary plan reviews of property at the corner of Kings Highway and Gills Neck Road. Lewes BPW meets Feb. 27
The Lewes Board of Public Works will meet at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, at city hall. The group will receive a presentation from Diamond State Community Land Trust regarding affordable housing. They will also consider a request to fund an Abbott Park electric upgrade, a policy regarding underground electric lines, a policy for wireless antennas in the BPW’s service area, the 2019-20 operations and management budget, and a discussion about the Front Street/Savannah Road upgrades. Rehoboth utility working group to meet Feb. 27
The working group created to examine the wastewater and water rates in Rehoboth has scheduled two upcoming meetings. The first is 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27. The second is 9 a.m., Friday, March 1. The Point in Cape Henlopen State Park to close March 1
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control announced Feb. 22 that the annual closing of the Point in Cape Henlopen State Park will take place Friday, March 1. This portion of the park is closed for the benefit of threatened and endangered beachnesters and migratory shorebirds, including red knot, piping plovers, oystercatchers, least terns and other species.
The Point has been closed annually since 1993. The nesting habitat on the ocean side will reopen Sept. 1. The bayside beach will remain closed until Oct. 1 for use by shorebirds migrating south for the winter. For more information, contact Cape Henlopen State Park at 302-645-8983.
Cape Henlopen school board to meet Feb. 28
The Cape Henlopen school board will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, at Love Creek Elementary. Major capital project updates for Cape High, Shields Elementary, Milton Elementary, Rehoboth Elementary and the Sussex Consortium will be presented, and the board will discuss the 2019-20 district calendar. Board members may take action on a temporary change to school start times at Milton Elementary for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years, and on facility usage pricing.
Dewey marketing committee meeting postponed
The Dewey Beach marketing committee meeting scheduled for Friday, March 1, has been postponed. The committee will now meet at 4 p.m., Friday, March 15, in the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave.
Source water subcommittee to meet Feb. 28
The Source Water Assessment Plan Subcommittee of the Source Water Assessment and Protection Program will meet from 10 a.m. to noon, Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Training Room of Tidewater Utilities, 1100 South Little Creek Road, Dover.
