UNICO Delaware gatherings cheer away winter doldrums

March 16, 2019

UNICO Delaware’s objectives are to promote Italian culture and donate to local charities, and to have fun while doing so.

Recent events include a movie night Jan. 17 featuring the film “Il Postino” in Italian with English subtitles. Attendees enjoyed pizza, popcorn and other treats.

The annual pasta challenge Feb. 21 highlighted four competitors vying for monetary prizes: Denise DiSabatino Allen, Mary Cappelli, Pam Notarangelo and George Scarpelli. Each entry was specially prepared and delicious. Mary Cappelli won first place, and George Scarpelli came in second. While votes were being tallied, attendees enjoyed a covered dish buffet and a lively Italian trivia game with English-Italian themes directed by President Ed Mason.

The 2nd Annual Carnevale hosted by the Delmarva Chapter was held at the Salt Pond Community Center in Bethany Beach March 2. A delicious Italian buffet along with music and song by local artist Vince Varrassi contributed to the evening of delightful fellowship and nostalgia.

Most events are held at St. Edmond Parish Hall in Rehoboth Beach. For more information, email unicodelawaredistrict1@gmail.com or go to www.unico.org.
