Aquacare specialists certified in McKenzie Spine Therapy method

April 4, 2019

Aquacare Physical Therapy announced that Pam Kline, PTA, has completed training in the McKenzie Method of Lumbar Spine.

Kline works with Dr. Salvatore Mancino, DPT/certified manual therapist, who is certified in the McKenzie Method of Lumbar/Cervical Spine Approach.

There are many causes of back pain, with common complaints of sciatica, a pinched nerve or having thrown out one’s back. Most of these phrases are synonyms for a herniated or bulging disc, which can seriously limit a person’s ability to participate in common activities, perform simple tasks or, in some cases, even cough.

Making matters worse is that the nerves to the legs originate from the low back. Therefore, an injury to the back can create pain, tingling and numbness that radiate down into the legs and feet. A herniated disc is one of many factors that can contribute to pain in the low back; other common ailments include spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease and spondylolysis. Because there are many reasons for neck/low back pain, treatment can vary widely.

The McKenzie Method used by Aquacare specialists is a system of mechanical diagnosis and treatment which includes active patient involvement starting at the initial evaluation.

The certified McKenzie therapist will gather a detailed history and identify distinct pain patterns, which will yield a valid indicator of the potential success of the treatment. By combining experience with specialized post-professional education, therapists can provide exceptional care throughout treatment and begin working toward a patient’s individual goals immediately.

During a patient’s initial evaluation, the physical therapist will determine which exercises are needed to manage symptoms while strengthening core muscles to improve posture and relieve back pain. Throughout treatment, the physical therapist will adjust exercises to improve core strength, spinal stabilization, and posture. The patient can learn how to correct future imbalances and prevent future back injuries. Learning these self-treatment techniques is a patient’s first step to meet and surpass goals to become more fit.

To schedule an evaluation or free consultation, call 302-200-9920. The office is at 34434 King Street Row, Suite 1 in Lewes. Patients do have a choice in where they would like to go for physical therapy.
