Top three runners break 17 minutes at Outlet Liquors 5K

The 16th annual Outlet Liquors 5K, contested June 30 in Dewey Beach, attracted a fast field of 245 runners. The stifling weather had backed off to a perfect 79 degrees with a slight breeze.

Will Rehrig, 26, ran a season-best time of 16:06.9, outkicking 33-year-old Brian Louis of West Chester, who came in at 16:08.2. John Becker 40, also of West Chester, was third overall and top masters runner in 16:49. James Stoltzfus in 17:30 and Bill McNary in 18:26 completed the top five leaderboard. 

If the race had been scored like a cross country meet, it would have been Pennsylvania 27 to Delaware 35. 

Jenna Fiorillo, 39, part of the West Chester group, was the first female in 19:07. She was followed by masters winner Mardiny Ung in 22:26, Kelsey Oliphant in 22:29, Alexis Oliphant in 22:29 and Katy Warehime in 22:33. 

Notable times from those under 21 years old were Charlie Undorf, 12, 20:41; Walter Schroeder, 16, 21:57; Alex Undorf, 11, 23:03; Denny Bontempo, 13, 23:22; Tyler Sabatini, 14, 24:00; and Riley Zimmerman, 11, 24:20. 

There were 13 states represented in the race, including several runners from California. 

Upcoming Races2Run events include the 10th annual Kelly Fritchman 5K Saturday, July 6, at Irish Eyes in Lewes, and the Dewey Beach Liquors at the Ivy 5K on Dagsworthy Avenue Sunday, July 7. Start time is 7:30 a.m. for both races.
