Mariner honor society donates to local organizations

Student-led auction raises $3,300
July 10, 2019

Throughout the school year, Mariner Middle National Junior Honor Society members held a variety of fundraisers, such as the March 29 Lucky Numbers Auction, to raise money for local organizations.

The annual student-run auction allows attendees to purchase 25 tickets for $10 or 75 tickets for $25 to bid on items such as jewelry, gift certificates and housewares collected by honor society members. This year’s auction proceeds netted $3,300.

Mackinzie Brown, Mariner honor society treasurer and rising Cape High freshman, said students were proud to give back to the community.

“We’re also grateful for all the donations provided by the local businesses,” she said. “Without them, we wouldn’t be able to raise this much money to give back.”

Students allocated funds to Doggone Happy Animal Rescue, Special Olympics Delaware and the Milton Food Pantry.

“We’ve given to Special Olympics Delaware and the Milton Food Pantry in the past, but this year we wanted to add Doggone Happy Animal Rescue into the mix,” Mackinzie said. “We know the money will go a long way and to animals who need it.”
