Tasha Haight named Miss Mermaid Delaware, supports ocean conservation

July 15, 2019

Tasha Haight was recently selected as Miss Mermaid Delaware through the Miss Mermaid USA program.

Mermaid Tasha is a member of the Circus Siren Pod, an internationally performing group of water artists that are freedive- and lifeguard-certified. They perform annually at Mermaid Megafest in Michigan, the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and Carolina Renaissance Faire, in addition to several local pirate and faerie festivals. Haight has a static breath hold of 3 minutes, 3 seconds and is striving for a breath hold over 4 minutes. Her favorite gig so far was a synchronized swimming routine the pod did in their tails at Harrah’s Casino in Atlantic City, N.J.

As part of the Miss Mermaid USA organization, each state titleholder must support a charity as well as the charity of Miss Mermaid USA. Haight has chosen to support Project AWARE, a nonprofit that partners diving with ocean conservation. As an Advanced PADI diver, she feels this is the perfect fit for her to pair with the Miss Mermaid USA charity, the Surfrider Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches.

Haight looks forward to her year as Miss Mermaid Delaware, supporting Project AWARE and the Surfrider Foundation, and helping promote ocean activism through her mermaid persona. To keep up with her activities, follow Mermaid Tasha on Facebook and Instagram.

Miss Mermaid competitions are a unique series of beauty pageants bringing mermaiding, modeling and ocean activism together on a worldwide scale. Mermaid Queens from around the world compete in skills such as underwater modeling, freediving, costume design and traditional pageantry, while supporting causes to help save the oceans.
