2019 American Honey Princess to visit Delaware

July 22, 2019

Nicole Medina, the 2019 American Honey Princess, will be in Harrington Tuesday to Thursday, July 23 to 25, as a guest of the Delaware Beekeepers Association.

She will appear at the Delaware State Fair, speaking to attendees about the importance of honeybees to Delaware agriculture, and how honeybees drive the quantity and quality of food. She will also share information about the bonuses that honeybees provide beyond honey.

Medina, of Green Township, N.J., is a college sophomore studying business administration. She has been keeping bees for five years with her family and is an active volunteer in the Sussex County (NJ) Beekeepers Association.

As the 2019 American Honey Princess, Medina serves as a national spokesperson on behalf of the American Beekeeping Federation, a trade organization representing beekeepers and honey producers throughout the United States.

The beekeeping industry touches the lives of every individual in the country. In fact, honeybees are responsible for nearly one-third of people’s entire diet, in regard to the pollination services they provide for a majority of fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes. This amounts to nearly $19 billion per year of direct value from honeybee pollination to United States agriculture.
