JJ 5K won by Francisco Puac and Josephine Ledford

Clydesdale state championships contested

Two hundred runners, joggers, walkers and full-time talkers took to the road July 21 in Rehoboth Beach for the 22nd Run for JJ 5K.

There were wet towels on heads and warm water to drink, watermelons to nibble and bacon to chomp.      

Francisco Puac was the overall winner in 17:18, followed by Zach Walker in 17:48, Port Habalar in 17:56, Martin Rodriguez in 18:14 and Reginaldo Hernandez in 18:48. 

Josephine Ledford, 15, of Frederica was the overall women’s winner in 20:55, followed by Shelby Mryncza in 21:56, Megan Lambert in 22:22, Pierson McManus in 22:24 and Laurie Drymond in 22:28. 

The JJ race is also the venue for the clydesdale and filly state championships.

The clydesdale champions were: 190-210 pounds, Andy Wolfe, 23:15; open 226 plus, Don Halfen, 30:08; and clydesdale senior masters, John Yanacek, 25:09.

The filly winners were: 150-plus, Rebekah Yanacek, 31:31; filly masters, Meaghan Nana-Sinkam, 33:12; and filly senior masters, Charlisa Edeline, 39:22. 

Mike Sewell was overall masters winner in 19:25. Mardiny Ung won female masters in 23:07. 

Notable age-group winners were: male 9-and-under, Hunter Thomas, 29;13; female 9-and-under, Erin Noonan, 32:03; male 10-13, Mason Lambert, 21:23; female 10-13, Lily Noonan, 25:22; male 25-29, Steven Eshelman, 19:46; female 45-49, Jen Perry, 26:04; male 50-54, Chris Stanley, 20:28; female 50-54, Jackie Quigley, 23:48; female 55-59, Margaret Colvin, 23:22; male 65-69, Rick Poppleton, 24:09; female 65-69, Diana Golden, 24:49; male 70-74, Jules Woodall, 27:46; female 70-74, Eileen Wimsatt, 33:46; male 75-79, Paul Kieffer, 47:22; female 75-79, Sherri Wright, 36:46; male 80-and-over, Jack Noel, 47:18; female 80-and-over, Marge Warshauer, 1:00:17. 

The next Seashore Striders race is the 36th annual Dam Mill 5K in Millsboro at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, July 27.
