Brian Fuller, 33, a 2009 Penn State graduate, won the Penn State Day 5K July 21 in Dewey Beach with a record-setting time of 15:09, which is 4:53 mile pace.

The time is the fastest 5K in the history of the Races2Run 10 Sisters Series.

Fuller, from Mechanicsburg, Pa., has run and won 15 Races2Run 5Ks since winning the Lighthouse Taco Toss in 2004 at 18 years old in 15:41.

Brian’s wife Emily won the women’s race in 18:23.

The field of 354 was furiously fast and filled with Fullers, with 31 runners breaking 20 minutes.

Bernie Gallagher, 78, of Dewey Beach, set an age-group record in the race with a time of 27:15.

The top 5 leaderboard for the men’s race following Fuller was Will Rehrig, 16:18; Kevin Fuller, 16:31; Mark Fuller, 16:48; and Zach Walker, 17:14.

Following Emily Fuller were Margaret Carroll, 19:34; Katie Fuller, 19:53; Kelly May, 19:56; and Bella Treglia, 20:08.

Kyle Brightbill, 44, of Philly, was the male masters champion in 17:24. Sarah Del Vecchio, 41, of Stamford, Conn., was female masters champion in 20:50.

A group of high school cross country runners from York, Pa., arrived at the beach in two vans to spend three days training under the direction of coach Greg Cauller.

“I wanted to show them all the great places to run down here. The problem is the traffic. It was just hard to get places,” coach Cauller said.

Cauller, 59, who has been a presence on the beach running scene forever, ran 19:50. Cole Perry, 15, of York was the top runner from the Cauller group in 17:44.

There were 20 states represented in the race.
