John Henry Bamberger, retired architect
John Henry Bamberger, 86, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away surrounded by his loving family Friday, Aug. 9, 2019 at his home.
John was born in Lebanon, Pa., Dec. 18, 1932, and was the son of the late Irvin Bamberger and Hattie Mae (Henry) Bamberger. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in architecture.
He owned and operated his own architectural firm called John H. Bamberger, Architects in Baltimore before working for the state of Maryland as a project architect and retiring in 2005. John was a member of The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach, the American Institute of Architects, and the National Rifle Association. John enjoyed boating, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Saundra M. (Lewandroski) Bamberger; three sons, Barrett (Teresa) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bradford of Rehoboth Beach and Stephen (Pamela) of Hampstead, Md.; and grandchildren, Amanda (Andrew) Sipe, Samantha Bamberger, Aaron Bamberger, and Abigail Bamberger. He is also survived by two stepsons, Mark (Teresa) Sowder of Towson, Md., and Leonard Sowder of Rehoboth Beach; and stepgrandchildren, Jack Sowder and Emily Sowder. John was predeceased by his first wife Helen E. (Ebur) Bamberger in 1988.
Services and burial will be private. His request was that memorial contributions be made to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior Women’s Group, Sand Dollars, 20276 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, and/or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
