Peace Week events to kick off with concert Sept. 21

Peace Week 2019 in Sussex County is set for Saturday, Sept. 21, to Sunday, Sept. 29. A series of events and actions is scheduled to raise awareness and hope for peace in the community, nation and world. 

Peace Week also commemorates International Peace Day, Sept. 21, and the efforts of the United Nations to achieve international harmony.

Sussex County Peace Week will kick off with a concert, Mending Hearts, Making Peace, presented by the Seaside Jewish Community, at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach. The community-wide concert will include area choirs and performers from all faiths and diverse cultures. Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items for donation to the Epworth Food Pantry. On display will be artwork by Seaside youth and other area youngsters, depicting their interpretations of peace.

The Peace Week March and Rally will begin with a gathering at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, at North Bedford Park in Georgetown. Attendees will proceed in a march to The Circle where a rally will be held from 3 to 4 p.m.  All are welcome. Speakers will represent a variety of faiths and backgrounds inspiring all to seek peace in their lives and the world. Music will also be included. All participants are encouraged to bring signs that celebrate and call for peace, as well as chairs or blankets to sit on.
