Trio Casals to play at St. Peter’s in Lewes Jan. 26

Musicians to preview short works for upcoming Carnegie Hall show
January 22, 2020

Trio Casals will return to Lewes in concert for the fourth consecutive year at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 26, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Cellist Ovidiu Marinescu and violinist Sylvia Ahramjian, members of Lewes Chamber Players, will be joined by Russian-born pianist Anna Kislitsyna in presenting a program of classical music to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.

The musicians will perform Beethoven’s “Trio op. 11,” a typically classical Viennese composition. Marinescu said the piece is witty, displaying perfect musical architecture and wonderful lyricism at the same time.

He said the work, originally composed in 1787 for clarinet, cello and piano, was also published with a violin replacing the clarinet, the version most often heard today.

In a preview of their concert to be held at Carnegie Hall in early February, the trio will also perform several short works, including “Three Songs” by Diane Jones, a New York composer of chamber and solo music, and a piece by British-born Clive Muncaster who, at age 15, was accepted into the Royal Academy of Music to study violin, piano, composition and conducting.

Works by Canadian composer Joanna Estelle and two show pieces for violin and piano by Brahms and Dinicu/Heifetz complete the program.

The church is at Second and Market streets in Lewes.
