Cape girls’ lacrosse goes after No. 12 in 2020

Cape girls’ lacrosse enters the 2020 season with 11 straight state titles in their back pocket and 137 straight wins against Delaware opponents. The Vikings were 18-0 in 2019, fielding one of their best and fastest teams in state history. The JV team was 13-1 and whacked everyone in Delaware. 

Alia Marshall and Chloe Schaffer, last year’s senior scorers, each had five goals in the 15-8 championship game win over Archmere. Marshall now plays field hockey at Northwestern, while Schaffer is playing lacrosse at Mercer University in Macon, Ga. 

The Cape program doesn’t reload, it reconfigures. Head coach Lindsey Eichner Underwood took over from the Zen Master P.J. Kesmodel and has kept the streak going, adding three more state titles to Cape’s resumé. 

Cape has good talent returning and will remain a tough out for any Delaware team. 

“We lost seven kids to graduation or moving over the summer, so we have quite a few openings,” Underwood said. “We have some returning JV players who have looked ready to step up, and our freshman class as a whole is solid. Across the program, the girls have put the work in during the off-season to come in ready. Everyone is excited and pushing each other to get better.”
