Sussex County resident among eight new COVID-19 cases

March 17, 2020

Eight additional positive cases of COVID-19 have been identified  – including the first case involving a Sussex County resident – bringing the statewide total of COVID-19 cases to 16, the Delaware Division of Public Health reports.

Health officials say the Sussex County resident had a travel-related exposure. The seven remaining cases are New Castle County residents; six of them participated in the ChristianaCare Health System drive through testing event March 14.

The source of the exposure of the remaining individuals is under investigation, and the health department will not disclose additional information about the individuals.

The health department does not have the results for all of the patients who attended drive-through events at ChristianaCare or Beebe Healthcare; the hospital system that performed the testing will report results to the patients, and all positive results will be reported to the health department.
