First State Community Action Agency celebrates 46 years

First State Community Action Agency Inc., a statewide nonprofit serving low-income individuals and communities, celebrated 46 years of service Nov. 21 with a dinner and recognition ceremony at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.

More than 200 guests joined the Delaware-based agency. Among the supporters was U.S. Sen. Tom Carper, who offered words of greeting.

Lt. Gov. Matt Denn offered the keynote address in accordance with the event theme, Working for Opportunity and Economic Security in Delaware. In his speech, Denn celebrated the longevity of the organization and stressed the ongoing need and profound impact of the community action agency in the state.

The agency also recognized key supporters, board members, staff, community partners, and funders. Linda Chick of Harrington, owner of Chick’s Harness & Supply Inc., received the 2011 Stanford L. Bratton Award, named after the agency’s first executive director, for her leadership and extensive community involvement. Charlotte Atack of Milford received the agency’s Employee of the Year Award.
