Robert E. Hammond, Air Force veteran
Robert E. Hammond, 81 of Milton died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford.
He was the son of the late Edward Hammond and Charlotte Gill Hammond. He was born in Tamworth, N.H. and served in the U.S. Air Force for 21-and-a-half years as a navigator where he served three tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force he worked for the Veterans Administration in the cemetery system. He also served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and as an instructor in the power squadron. He instructed children in boating safety courses for Delaware Fish and Wildlife.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary Hammond of Milton; three sons, Robert Michael, William Patrick and Steven Richter Hammond; two sisters, Dorothy and Patricia; four grandchildren; and two stepchildren, David A. Schepleng and William G. Schepleng III.
