Daniel L. Thornburg, CPT, has joined The Firm Fitness Center in Rehoboth Beach. Born and raised Dover, Thornburg is the son of former 29th District Rep. Pam Thornburg and the brother of International Sports Sciences Association CPT David Thornburg of the Forever Fit Foundation in Dover.
Thornburg boasts a physical fitness and activity background including being a professional logger for eight years. He is a National Strength and Conditioning Association-certified personal trainer and a TRX suspension training specialist. CPR certified by the National Safety Council, Thornburg has also completed the Professional Fitness Institute’s boot camp in Las Vegas, Nev., as well as Dawn Career Institute’s course in personal training and fitness program design.
“We welcome Daniel Thornburg to The Firm’s family,” said Paul Timmons, NSCA-CPT, owner of The Firm Fitness Center. “Dan brings a level of training and focus on training that is new and inventive. We look forward to providing the space for Dan’s clients to attain their fitness goals.”
Thornburg believes that countless machines, weights and zones can make the gym feel overwhelming to many people who overthink the process and feel it’s too complicated to exercise. “I fully believe that we are creatures designed to be in motion, so let’s get moving! Exercising should be challenging, yet fun. My main training focus utilizes a person’s own body weight in practical fitness training to increase strength and all-over body conditioning. I readily apply this philosophy to those with weight-loss goals by increasing their range of motion and introducing sport-specific styles of training.”
Formerly with Atlas Fitness in Middletown and Club Fitness 24/7 in Rehoboth Beach,Thornburg assisted WBOC-Salisbury news anchor Alice Bavis in preparation for her recent wedding and worked with local pageant contestants including Marissa Hinsch, who will be competing for the 2013 Miss Rehoboth crown; Tierra Fair, Miss Atlantic Coast; and Emily Rufo, Miss Teen Atlantic Coast.
Ranging in age from their 20s to their 60s, his clients are encouraged to hear Thornburg say, “No goal is unattainable, there are just unrealistic time lines. My clients will benefit from my experience and the knowledge that I am well aware of the bare minimum needed to get someone back on track to looking and feeling their best without over-complicating a fitness program. It’s really easier than you think.”
According to Thornburg’s fitness client Bruce Savage of Washington, D.C., and Lewes, “As someone who used to cringe at the thought of exercising, my recent training sessions with Dan Thornburg have proved life-changing. He totally defused the intimidation factor that I always felt when going to the gym. I now look forward to working out and I enjoy exercising more than I ever thought possible, and I'm seeing the results both in my mirror and my self-confidence.”
Thornburg’s hobbies include avid snowboarding, rock climbing, long boarding, skydiving, mountain biking, football and baseball/softball. Currently, his personal training goal is increasing his lower body strength and conditioning in preparation for the upcoming winter sports season.
Thornburg trains clients at outdoor locations such as the beach, public playgrounds and parks, as well as utilizing The Firm Fitness Center’s facilities to get his clients moving. He also offers in-home personal training. Thornburg can be contacted via email at danielthornburg1@gmail.com, by phone at 302-632-0812 or at the gym at 302-227-8363.
