Sexting substitute Meagan Gordon pleads guilty
A substitute teacher who showed a high school student racy pictures of herself on a cellular phone is not going to jail. Meagan Gordon, 22, was sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to pay $500 for showing a 15-year-old Sussex Technical High School student naked pictures of herself and sending the student sexually suggestive text messages.
Gordon, of Bridgeville, was arrested Sept. 21, and charged with providing obscene material to a person under 18. Standing calmly next to her attorney, William Chasanov, at a Dec. 19 case review, Gordon pleaded guilty to obscenity.
Judge T. Henley Graves ordered Gordon have no contact with the student and no contact with any person under age 18 without a parent present. Graves said Gordon is permanently prohibited from working in any school in Delaware, and she can have no position of authority over any person under 18.
Gordon was also ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.
According to police, the victim’s mother called Sussex Tech in May and said her son had been text-messaging Gordon. The mother also said she believed her son had seen inappropriate pictures of his teacher.
According to court documents, Gordon asks the boy in one text not to tell anyone about the pictures.
According to Cpl. Jeffrey Hale of Delaware State Police, detectives say the student obtained Gordon's cell phone at school, took it into a bathroom and looked at several naked pictures of her. Hale said the boy then went to class with Gordon, where she again let him look at the pictures, and the two exchanged phone numbers.
During an interview with police, documents state, Gordon admitted that she sent the student text messages, and that he probably saw nude photos of her stored on her phone.
Before Graves sentenced her, he told Gordon based on her crime she was eligible for two years in prison.
