Cape volleyball sinks the Bucs 3-0
The Cape volleyball squad moved to 9-1 on the season Nov. 17, as the Vikings dominated Milford 25-7, 25-16 and 25-10. They also honored the Class of 2021 on Senior Night.
Sophomore Natalie Derrickson subbed for starting setter Megan Smith and stepped up for the Vikings by providing 32 assists in the match. She also served two aces. Angelica Kusen garnered 11 kills while her sister Bre added seven. Senior Katie Knarr slammed nine kills and bumped eight digs. Senior Emily Lamb bumped nine digs and served four aces. Senior Jocelyn Leach bumped six digs and served two aces. Senior Erin Morrissey contributed four kills and two aces. Hope Reed roofed two blocks at the net.
“This was a really fun Senior Night for us,” said Cape head coach Tyler Coupe. “Our seven seniors – even an injured Madison Mahoney – were able to have an impact on the match. They proved what we’ve been preaching all year, that it’s not a group of starters and non-starters, it’s whatever combination makes the most successful platoon in that moment. Natalie Derrickson did a great job distributing the ball in her debut as setter. She was balanced and poised, and shared the ball across the net extremely evenly. Angelica and Erin had a very efficient offensive effort. Looking forward to seeing how we close out these last two matches of the regular season.”
“It felt so wonderful to be able contribute to the seniors’ special night and to be a part of such a great team,” said Derrickson. “We work hard as a unit in practice, and I think it definitely pays off on the court.”
The Vikings junior varsity delivered a great effort to beat the JV Bucs 25-3 and 25-12 to move to 3-3 on the season.
The Lady Vikings travel to Polytech Thursday, Nov. 19, and will finish the season at Dover Monday, Nov. 23.
