Early June Events Help Kick Off the 2021 Summer Season in Style this Weekend

June 2, 2021

Well, did everyone have a fantastic Memorial Day Weekend? Yeah we know, the weather wasn't exactly up to par, but most of us did have three consecutive days to spend with friends and family while officially kicking off the 2021 Summer Season at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

And now that we're officially "in season" along the coast, we have a number of great things to tell you about for this first weekend of June, highlighted by the annual Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival in the downtown area of historic Lewes.

This is always one of the highlights of the early summer season and we encourage you to check it out either on Saturday or Sunday, or both if you're so inclined.

Movies on the Beach events are also returning for 2021 in Bethany Beach and Ocean City, with Dewey Beach following suit in a few weeks. So make plans to relax on the sandy shores of the Atlantic and take in a great family movie sometime over the next few months.

We also have special events in upstate Delaware and in Maryland's capital city of Annapolis to tell you about this week, so keep reading below for all of the great things happening this weekend in the region.

We begin with the aforementioned Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival in the "First Town in the First State."

2021 Mid-Atlantic Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival (June 5-6)

This year marks the 12th time the Lewes Historical Society has hosted the Mid-Atlantic Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival in downtown Lewes, with two days of great fun, multitudes of shopping options and other special events all on the schedule.

The festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 5-6, with scheduled hours both days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person and children under 12 are admitted for free.

Around 50 sea glass and coastal artists have registered for the festival with specialties ranging from photography, painting, sculpture, wood and ceramics. And of course sea glass!

Other scheduled events and activities include food vendors, live music, sea glass exhibitions, children's activities, collections and chances to chat with some of the festival's most popular artists via the new "Chat with an Expert" opportunities.

Cape Farm and Garden Tour 2021 (June 5)

Three of the coastal region's most beautiful venues will be open to the public this Saturday, June 5, to raise money for local food banks and pantries.

The 2021 Cape Farm and Garden Tour is scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and then again from 1 to 4 p.m.

Scheduled stops on this year's tour include the beautiful Lavender Fields at Warrington Manor, the Mill Garden on Red Mill Pond and the Shimizu Garden in downtown Lewes.

Tickets are $30 with proceeds again going to local food banks to help those in need as we emerge from the year-long coronavirus pandemic in the coastal region.

"Andy & Opie" Kids Fishing Tournament (June 5)

Want some quality time with the family this weekend? Then might we suggest the 2021 "Andy & Opie" Kids Fishing Tournament in Milton.

Registration for the event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with fishing continuing until 1 p.m., at Milton Memorial Park.

With a name harkening back to the old "Andy Griffith Show," this is a fishing tournament for parents and their kids to participate in together.

Prizes will be handed out in several divisions, separated by age group and by gender.
