Jungle Jim’s 5K attracts fast field of runners

June 30, 2021

The 17th annual Jungle Jim’s 5K held June 26 at the water park near Wawa was a fast field of 180 runners, with the top 12 breaking 20 minutes.

Darian Sorouri, 25, was overall winner in 16:43, while his Stony Brook mate from New Zealand (they go out) Holly Manning was the first woman, finishing in 18:42.

Mike Sewell was overall masters winner in 18:53, while Lori Holdsworth captured the women’s masters trophy in 24:01.

“Runners love the Jungle Jim’s race because of the access to the water park afterward,” said Race Director Tim Bamforth. “It’s such a cool place. Most runners without young children don’t come to the Jungle Jim’s water park for relaxation.”

The top 50 runners cruised the course in sub-8-minute pace, including 8-year-old Nolan Furlong (23:40) and 68-year-old fleet footer Rick Poppleton (21:28).
