Sussex Habitat celebrates volunteers
Sussex County Habitat for Humanity recently honored the work of its volunteers with an appreciation dinner held at the ReStore in Lewes.
More than 100 volunteers were present as Sussex Habitat celebrated 14,000 combined volunteer hours of work done at the administrative offices, construction sites and the Lewes ReStore.
Habitat relies on help from volunteers not only to build homes but also to supplement staffing at both the administrative office and the ReStore. Among other tasks, office volunteers help with administrative responsibilities, translating and family empowerment coaching. Events volunteers help plan and facilitate special events. Construction volunteers help build new homes and repair homes. Thanks to its volunteers, ReStore collected, cleaned and sold nearly $790,000 worth of products which generated $320,000 to help fund programs and build two new homes.
“Even with the pandemic, our volunteers were able to build 10 homes, repair 79 homes, and raise $1.6 million in cash and commitments for future projects. We could not have accomplished all that we did during the extraordinary year without the dedication of our volunteers. We’re very grateful for each and every one of them,” said Kevin Gilmore, Sussex Habitat executive director.
