Pat’s Pizza hopes to bring family traditions, good food, great portions and daily deals to the Cape Region.

Alex Kotanides, partner in Pat’s Pizza of Dover, opened the Lewes location as the company’s first foray into Sussex County. On Jan. 23, Pat’s Pizza took over the vacated Route 1 space vacated by Five Guys.

Kotanides and partner John Diamond liked the location because it is north of the busy parts of the highway. So far, Kotanides said the restaurant has received a great response.

“We had the Dover location, but I moved to Lewes to sort of have a getaway, but then it seemed logical to open a location here,” Kotanides said.

“We are going for a year-round presence here in this location,” he said. If all goes well, the restaurant chain could expand in Sussex County.

Pat’s Pizza was created in 1974 when the first family-owned restaurant opened in New Jersey. Since then, the family has expanded, with younger generations opening restaurants around the Mid-Atlantic. By the end of 2012, there will be 56 locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

The interior restaurant has a modern, fast-food feel, with bright sofas and booths mixed with wooden chairs and tables.

With the motto, ‘Not a franchise, just a family,’ Pat's hopes to bring Sussex residents to the table with good prices and delicious food, Kotanides said.

Daily lunch specials include small cheesesteak subs, gyros or a medium cheese pizza for $6.49. For dinner, try two large pizzas for $17.99. Kotanides said pizza is a favorite of customers, but the lasagna is also very popular.

The Lewes location employs up to 14 people, but Kotanides hopes to hire more once he starts a delivery service in the next two months. Besides regular lunch and dinner fare, Pat’s Pizza also offers party trays.

While the hours may change in the future, the restaurant is currently open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
