School of Nursing Saliba scholarship awarded to Milton student

October 21, 2021

Josephine “Josie” Melson, a Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing student, was selected as this year’s recipient of the Dr. and Mrs. Anis Saliba Scholarship. This year’s award of $1,000 will go toward school expenses.

This endowment was initiated by Dr. Anis and Susan Saliba in 2017 and is awarded annually for the fall semester to a senior student in Beebe Healthcare’s Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing.

Dr. Saliba joined the medical staff at Beebe Hospital as a surgeon in 1968, joined the Beebe Medical Center board of directors in 1988, and served as chief of staff for many years before retiring as a private practice surgeon in 2003. He now is an emeritus member of the board of directors and an honorary member of the medical staff.

Melson, a Milton resident, was selected by the nursing instructors and then approved by the Student Services Committee. She graduated from Cape Henlopen High School in 2016. She shared that her great-grandmother, who was born in 1921 and is known as the second Beebe baby, was a patient of Dr. Saliba’s.
