Cape Gazette posts early deadlines

Due to the upcoming holidays, Cape Gazette retail and classified advertising deadlines for the next two Friday editions will be early. 

Retail advertising deadlines for the Friday editions, Dec. 24 and 31, will be noon, Mondays, Dec. 20 and 27, respectively. Classified deadlines for the Dec. 24 and 31 editions will be noon, Tuesdays, Dec. 21 and 28, respectively.

South Bedford Street to close Dec. 20-24

South Bedford Street in Georgetown will be closed between Route 113 and Zoar Road from 7 a.m., Monday, Dec. 20, until 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 24. The closure is necessary for removal and replacement of a crossroad pipe. 

Motorists traveling on South Bedford Street from Georgetown will be detoured onto Arrow Safety Road to Route 113 northbound or southbound. Motorists traveling from the west on Shortly Road toward Georgetown will be detoured north on Route 113 to Arrow Safety Road and back to Shortly Road. At all times, residents will have access to their homes but may need to take the posted detour route.

Sussex offices closed during holiday

Sussex County government offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 23, Friday, Dec. 24, Monday, Dec. 27, and Friday, Dec. 31. The next regularly scheduled county council meeting is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.

Rehoboth shade tree meeting canceled

A Rehoboth Beach Parks and Shade Tree Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, Dec. 20, has been canceled due to lack of agenda items, according to a notice issued by the city Dec. 14.

Food bank to host drive-thru Dec. 20

The Food Bank of Delaware will hold another drive-thru distribution event at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 20, at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown. One of the truck deliveries did not make it to the Dec. 13 drive-thru, and food bank representatives were not able to serve everyone. 

Those who need assistance and were not served Dec. 13 may register at eventbrite.com by searching December Sussex County Second Drive-Thru Distribution. 

Attendees should bring proof they live in Delaware. On-site registration will also be available. Service will be first-come, first-served. Assistance is limited to one per household. Public restrooms will not be available. Make sure vehicle trunks or backseats are clear for easy loading. Anyone who is unable to attend the distribution may dial 2-1-1 to be connected to other community food pantries.

Milton streets committee to meet 

The Milton Streets, Sidewalks and Parks Committee will meet at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Milton library.

The committee will discuss its capital improvement plan, the Route 5-Route 16 intersection, replacement of street signs, cleanup of Milton Memorial Park and Mill Park, and the Milton Traffic Calming Ad Hoc Committee report.

The committee will discuss memorial signage in Milton Memorial Park, a citizen complaint related to the pedestrian crossing area at Union and Magnolia streets, and changing the meeting time.
