Brandywine Valley SPCA holds holiday sleepovers for overlooked dogs

December 30, 2021

In its fourth annual holiday sleepovers initiative, the Brandywine Valley SPCA placed 12 of the shelter’s most overlooked dogs into foster homes for the holiday week.

While the dogs are enjoying the holidays in foster care, the BVSPCA hopes to get insights, photos and videos from the caregivers to help the dogs find forever families after the foster period.

The dogs are from the organization’s Georgetown and New Castle campuses in Delaware and the West Chester campus in Pennsylvania.

“These are terrific companions that may be overlooked for a number of reasons,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA CEO. “They may be a little older; they may need a home as an only pet, or they might be scared in the kennels and not show their best to adopters. All of them deserve the love of a family over the holidays.”

For the second consecutive year, the BVSPCA Holiday Sleepovers are being held in partnership with Big Barker, maker of the only dog bed designed specifically to support a big dog’s body. Big Barker is sending each dog home with a Big Barker bed. In a study performed by the University of Pennsylvania, the Big Barker bed was clinically proven to alleviate the pain and stiffness big dogs can suffer from due to arthritis and joint deterioration. Big Barker beds improve mobility, energy and quality of life.

The community can follow the sleepovers on the BVSPCA’s Facebook and Instagram pages. While fosters have been secured for these 12 dogs, the organization has an ongoing need for foster homes for dogs and cats.
