Milton Fire Department has signed a contract to get a new pumper truck in February 2023, replacing an engine that had been in service since 2001.
The new truck will be a 2023 Pierce Saber custom outfitted by Atlantic Emergency Solutions of Salisbury, Md. The truck will have seating for six firefighters and a 1,000-gallon water tank. It will be equipped with a high-velocity pump that can handle 1,500 gallons per minute.
Fire Chief Johnny Hopkins said the new truck will get call number 85-3; the department plans to nickname the truck the Front Street Express, after the street where Milton’s fire hall is located.
Hopkins said the vehicle this one is replacing, truck 85-6, has seen a lot of use over the years and needed to be retired. He said 85-3 had been out of service for a while as a truck number, and the department wanted to reissue it.
