R&L Liquors donates to Ukrainian relief efforts

Lewes store sells bourbon, donates half the proceeds
March 16, 2022

R&L Liquors in downtown Lewes is doing its part to help the people of Ukraine.

The Second Street store recently sold a bottle of 12-year-old Van Winkle Special Reserve bourbon for $1,700. Half the proceeds were donated to Direct Relief, which has deployed more than 30 tons of medical aid to Ukraine since the war broke out.

“I feel bad for those people,” said owner Carol Garner. “You see what's being done over there ... it's just heartbreaking.”

In addition to the Van Winkle sale, R&L Liquors has also recently started selling Ukrainian-made spirits. The store is donating $1 from every sale to relief efforts. They currently offer two brands of vodka and a brandy.

“It’s not a ton of money, but it buys a little bit of the stuff they need, and it's a nice show of support,” said Chris Banz, liquor and beer manager.

The Ukrainian liquor has been a popular addition, as R&L Liquors recently sold 36 bottles in a single day. Garner said they’ll continue to sell as long as it’s available.

R&L Liquors has been a fixture on Second Street since 1974. For more information, call 302-645-9183.
