For its 60th season of offering free, family-friendly music and fun, the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand’s Summer Concert Series is so packed with musical flavors and performances, it has added a preview Memorial Day weekend lineup for visitors and hometown fans alike.
The regular summer concert series offers free performances at 8 p.m., every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from June 10, with Mike Hines & the Look, through Saturday, Sept. 3, when Still Surfin’ will close out the season. Concerts are held on the Bandstand at the east end of Rehoboth Avenue. The 2022 summer concert series lineup is available online at rehobothbandstand.com/events.
Love Seed Mama Jump will kick off Memorial Day weekend with a show starting at 8 p.m., Friday May 27. Jimi Smooth & HitTime will take the stage at 8 p.m., Saturday, May 28, and Hot Sauce will kick up the heat at 8 p.m., Sunday, May 29.
“It has been such an exciting time for Rehoboth Beach as we see our visitors and locals returning to our audience,” said Corey Groll, Bandstand program director. “In putting together this year’s lineup, we wanted to welcome everyone back with a balance of opportunities to reconnect with some favorite acts and be introduced to new musical groups as well.”
Performances span genres, from jazz to Motown and smooth soul to a mashup of opera and rock, as well as decades, from the British classics and Janis Joplin to the 1970s and ‘80s. Tribute performances throughout the summer will honor the Beach Boys, Neil Diamond, the Eagles, Elton John, Elvis, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rolling Stones, Steely Dan and Van Morrison.
One highlight of the summer season will be July 4th weekend when the Funsters take the stage Sunday, July 3, before and after the city’s Independence Day fireworks display. Military bands will perform July 2 and 4.
“As a veterans memorial bandstand, we take the opportunity to host U.S. military musical groups very seriously,” said Groll. “This year, Rehoboth’s Bandstand is the chosen venue for the U.S. Navy Concert Band and the U.S. Army Band Jazz Ambassadors during the important Fourth of July weekend. These official D.C.-based groups are tops in their field, and we are honored to host them in Rehoboth Beach.”
