Lewes library to host music talk with noted guitarist May 20

May 12, 2022

The Music School of Delaware and Lewes Public Library invite guests to gather around the library’s fireplace at 7 p.m., Friday, May 20, for a discussion with composer and guitarist J. Andrew Dickenson.

Dickenson has been involved with many productions as a performer, composer, music director and arranger. During this intimate conversation, he will walk through the compositional process he uses when writing new pieces. He also will address how nature influences his work, including his woodwind quintet, Blue Ridge Ballades, which premiered at the Music School’s Milford Faculty & Friends concert series in April.

Seating is limited, and registration is required at lewes.lib.de.us or by calling the library at 302-645-2733.

Dickenson is a graduate of Peabody Conservatory and the Mannes College of Music. He now teaches at Cecil College and the Music School of Delaware. He has two recordings with soprano June Suh as well as a solo album, and he has concertized in the finest venues throughout Europe, Asia and United States, where his music has reached No. 1 on the international broadcasting charts.

“As a woodwind player, I have a strong fondness for woodwind quintet chamber music," said Mary Jane Vanvestraut, Milford branch director for The Music School of Delaware. "Andrew has so beautifully and brilliantly crafted Blue Ridge Ballades to perfectly capture the Blue Ridge Mountains in both visual and cultural aspects. Andrew is a masterful composer, and The Music School of Delaware is honored to have him lead and teach here at our institution.”
