Hundreds of Golden Retrievers and their families gathered on the bayside beach in Dewey May 14 in foggy and rainy weather to meet in a semi-annual tradition dedicated to raising funds and having fun.
The Golden Jubilee is open to all cordial dogs and held the second weekend of May and the last weekend of September to celebrate the cordial canines and raise money for the Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study.
The study’s purpose is to identify nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs. Each year, with the help of veterinarians and dog owners, the foundation collects health, environmental and behavioral data on 3,000-plus enrolled golden retrievers.
Kim Bronakoski, Dewey Golden Jubilee co-host, said about 300 people registered for the event, raising about $5,000. Bronakoski said she will wait to distribute funds to Morris Animal Foundation until December because dog food brand Blue Buffalo will match the group’s donation.
The Golden Jubilee will return to Dewey in the fall. For more information, go to deweysgoldenjubilee.com.
