Milton Elementary FAME students hold showcase
Milton Elementary students in an after-school program held a year-end musical performance and collaborative art showcase in the school auditorium May 18.
Friends At Milton Elementary students could choose to study art or theater in the free program that included times for snack, physical activity and homework help.
Cat Flaherty of CopyCat Paint Parties and her students shared photos and described the activities they experienced, including drawing items they could get into, balloon and yarn projects, and work with clay.
Theater students, led by Milton Theatre Education Director Kerinne Walls, were divided into grade levels to perform musical acts featuring famous songs from movies, including “Ghostbusters,” “Eye of the Tiger” and “Don’t You (Forget About Me).”
In spring 2019, FAME was awarded a Delaware Department of Education 21st Century Nita M. Lowey Community Learning Center program grant of $320,000 per year for up to five years, for a total of $1.6 million to expand summer and after-school programs and create partnerships with local organizations.
FAME provides enrichment activities to improve the academic success of students from Title I schools. Schools are designated as Title I based on the percentage of students who come from low-income families.
