After not having an election for the previous decade, Henlopen Acres will have an election for the second straight year.

The filing deadline for the town’s 2022 municipal election passed July 8, and three people have filed for two seats – incumbent Commissioners Richard Thompson and Jeffrey Jacobs and challenger John Shedletsky.

Thompson is a resident of McLean, Va., and running for re-election as a non-resident commissioner. He was first appointed in June 2018 to fill the seat of former Mayor David Lyons. He was unopposed for re-election in September 2019 for a three-year term.

Appointed in July 2020 to fill the unexpired term of former Commissioner Frank Jamison, Jacobs is running for his first full term as a commissioner. Jacobs serves as town treasurer and is running as a resident commissioner.

Shedletsky, running as a non-resident, was unsuccessful in his bid for commissioner in last year’s four-candidate race.

Last year, roughly 57% – 158 people – of the town’s 279 registered voters participated in the election.
