A Milton man faces charges after police say he assaulted a man in Tru-Vale Acres Aug. 12, and threatened neighbors with a handgun.
Delaware State Police were called at 9:42 p.m. to a home in Tru-Vale Acres near Rehoboth Beach and learned that a man was in his driveway loading items into a vehicle when Frederick Young, 29, approached him and struck the man in the head while holding a firearm, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.
Young stole the man’s cellphone and then threatened two of the man’s neighbors with a handgun, DeMalto said. Computer checks of Young revealed that he is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.
The victim was treated by EMS personnel at the scene for his injuries. Young drove away before police arrived.
On Aug. 17, police contacted Young during a traffic stop in the Lewes area, and he was taken into custody without incident. Young was transported to Troop 7 and charged with two counts of felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, felony possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, felony second-degree assault and two counts of aggravated menacing.
Young was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $120,000 cash bond.
