Children’s author kicks off Earth Month at Lewes library April 1

March 26, 2023

Earth Month at the Lewes Public Library will kick off with a book event featuring Rehoboth Beach children’s author Aimee Isaac and a spring craft activity for kids at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 1, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes, presented by the library, Browseabout Books and GFWC Zwaanendael Women's Club.

Isaacs will read her new book, “The Planet We Call Home.” With art by bestselling illustrator Jaime Kim, the book is a lyrical and loving ode to Planet Earth, exploring the ways in which its many wonders are interconnected.

After the reading, Isaacs will be available for a book signing and discussion, including helpful ways people of all ages can care for the earth. Books may be purchased in advance at Browseabout Books in Rehoboth and will also be for sale at the event.

Isaac is a former teacher and a busy advocate with a background in sociology, early childhood special education and reading. Her writing is fueled by her passion for the natural world, and when she isn’t writing or advocating, she often enjoys hiking, reading or spending time with family. She lives with her husband and three children in Rehoboth.

Following the story, the Zwaanendael Women’s Club of Lewes will host a hands-on spring craft activity for kids, who will have the opportunity to decorate and plant their own flower pots. Advance registration is required for the craft to ensure enough supplies for all; to sign up, go to lewes.lib.de.us.

“The Zwaanendael Club Arts and Culture Committee is pleased to be partnering with the Lewes Public Library and Browseabout Books on this spring event for children. Hosting the Paint and Plant activity supports our mission to give children an appreciation for art,” said Lynn Barberi, club president.

The GFWC Zwaanendael Women’s Club of Lewes is dedicated to supporting the local community through volunteering time and resources to members in need, and to supporting the General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ commitment to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through service.
