Rehoboth fire engine finds new home
A Rehoboth Beach fire engine is heading west after a Missouri fire company lost one of its fire engines in an accident.
Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co. recently bought a new fire engine to replace a 1995 truck, and had planned on keeping a 1994 fire engine until the new one was delivered in about three years. But when officials heard about a volunteer fire company in Preston, Mo., that needed a new response engine, their plans changed.
On May 3, members of the Rehoboth Fire Volunteer Company unanimously voted to send the Rehoboth truck to Preston, and added some excess firefighting equipment for the rural farming community.
Upon hearing the news, Preston Fire Chief Brian Bennett and some of his members left Missouri and drove to Rehoboth Beach, where they turned back around May 6 with Rehoboth Engine 86-4.
This isn’t the first truck that has left Delaware for Preston. Over the years, the fire company acquired a tanker and a four-wheel drive field fire pick-up truck from Indian River Volunteer Fire Company.
