Blue downs Gold in senior girls’ soccer game

The girls’ Blue-Gold Senior Soccer Game was held June 10 at Cape Henlopen High School’s Legends Stadium, and when the final whistle sounded, the Blue squad had taken a 6-2 victory.

Blue garnered two scores from Ashley Hughes of Delaware Military Academy, while St. Georges’ Joyce Montgomery, Sussex Academy’s Kenna Webb, Wilmington Friends’ Reagan Brady and Brandywine’s Mairin Hamilton each tallied one goal.

The Gold team’s Emma Gioffre of Archmere scored twice, while Ursuline’s Sophia Filipowski scored one goal.

MVPs for the game were goalie Ava Ripanti of Middletown for the Blue squad and Gioffre from the Gold team.

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
