Art in Bloom’s latest gift to the Lewes community is the bronze sculpture “Best Friends Reading,” which has been donated to the Lewes Public Library.
The sculpture sits in the Patricia and Paul Mylander Seating Area next to the children’s room patio. Located near the bike trail, there are two benches opposite the statue where patrons may sit.
A celebration and unveiling of the art will take place at 11:45 a.m., Monday, Aug. 14, at the library. The Lewes Public Library and Art in Bloom invite the public to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
The bronze garden sculpture depicts a boy and girl enjoying a read together on a bench designed to look like it is made of twisted wood. As the boy reads, the girl looks on in her sun hat, entranced by the words on the page. Both children are meticulously crafted. Their serene faces and the playful yet intricate detailing of their clothes not only make this sculpture truly lifelike, but also adds a touch of warmth to the setting.
The sculpture was designed and created by the imaginative artists at the Randolph Rose Collection in Yonkers, N.Y., who have been handcrafting the finest works of bronze art for homes, gardens and public spaces since 1972.
“Art in Bloom believes this is a wonderful addition to the library and the Lewes Junction Park area in general,” said Ed Zygmonski, Art in Bloom co-chair and project leader. “Parents, children, teachers, librarians and guests will love this work of art for its sweet and whimsical nature.”
Lea Rosell, Lewes library director, said, “We are delighted to add this sculpture to our children’s patio and garden. It brings charm and whimsy to the space, which is a popular spot for families and patrons of all ages to relax and enjoy their library books.”
Art in Bloom, a committee of Lewes in Bloom, has been active in the Lewes community for over seven years.
