Clifton E. Holland III, proud veteran

Clifton “Speedy” E. Holland III, 74, of Frankford, passed away surrounded by his loving family Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Md.

Speedy was born July 19, 1949, in Lewes, son of the late Clifton E. Holland Jr. and the late Pearl (Baker) Holland. He graduated from John M. Clayton High School and was a member of the VFW. Speedy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War and worked as a mason for the majority of his life.  

Speedy enjoyed clamming, fishing and feeding his hummingbirds. He also enjoyed sitting by his fish pond listening to bluegrass music but above all else, Speedy loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy Lavinia Holland; two sons, Hunter Holland and David Holland; two granddaughters, Hanna Pearl Holland and Harper Layton Holland; and three sisters, Sue Ellen Bonaventure (Dan), Barbara Jo Hudson (Perry) and Sandra Swafford (late husband Harold); sisters-in-law, Donna McCabe (Joe) and Diana Magath (John); brothers-in-law, Gerald Dorman (Donna) and Greg Dorman (Bonnie); and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of Speedy’s life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 30, at Hunter’s home, Blueberry Lane, Frankford.
