Weather causing weekend cancellations in Cape Region

This weekend’s inclement weather forecast is forcing the cancellation of the following events:

‘Jaws’ on the Bay
The Town of Dewey Beach has canceled the outdoor screening of the movie ‘Jaws’ that was set for Friday, Sept. 22. The event will be rescheduled to a later date, to be announced.

Historic Lewes Farmers Market
The Saturday, Sept. 23 farmers market has been canceled; the next market date is Saturday, Sept. 30.

Alzheimer’s Walk Rehoboth
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, set for Saturday, Sept. 23, starting at the Bandstand in Rehoboth Beach, has been canceled. The event is rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30, at the same location.

Rehoboth Beach Homeowners’ Association Picnic
The annual Rehoboth Beach Homeowners’ Association Picnic set for Saturday, Sept. 23, has been rescheduled to Saturday, Oct. 21, following the annual fall membership meeting. 

Apple Cider Festival
Lewes Fire Department’s Apple Cider Festival is rescheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 24, at Station 2, 32198 Janice Road. The event was originally scheduled to take place Saturday, Sept. 23.

DSP 100th Anniversary 5K
The Delaware State Police 100th Anniversary 5K is rescheduled for 9 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 29, at The Starboard in Dewey Beach. 

Lewes Base Ball Club doubleheader
The Lewes Base Ball Club doubleheader 1864 base ball game scheduled for noon, Saturday Sept. 23, has been cancelled because of the pending storm system. There will be no makeup date. The 2023 Lewes Base Ball Season has concluded.

Delaware State Parks
In light of the impending coastal storm, Delaware State Parks has posted the following access and safety updates: 

 
  • Campgrounds, cottages and cabins at Cape Henlopen State Park, Delaware Seashore State Park and Indian River Marina are closed through Monday, Sept. 25. Individuals with reservations to arrive Friday, Sept. 22 through Monday, Sept. 25 will receive a separate email communication with additional information.
 
  • Drive-on beach access closed Friday Sept. 22 at noon. Conditions will be re-evaluated on Sunday, Sept. 24, and updates will be posted on the Cape Henlopen and Delaware Seashore Facebook pages.
 
  • Lifeguards will not be on duty Saturday, Sept. 23 through Sunday, Sept. 24.
 
  • Programs and events are being cancelled or rescheduled across the state park system. Check individual state park social media pages for additional updates.
